Who to watch
Aiming for Athens
By John Meyer Denver Post Staff Writer
Who: Joy Fahrenkrog
What: Archery Olympic team trials
When: Monday through Saturday
Where: Mason, Ohio
Why: Fahrenkrog, who grew up in Castle Pines and attended Douglas County High School for two years, began
training seriously only 18 months ago and full-time six months ago. She has demonstrated remarkable potential, however, finishing
in the top five in four of her past five competitions. "I'm right in there," said Fahrenkrog, who finished fifth this year
at indoor nationals. "If I can keep my cool (at the trials), there's a good chance I will be on the team." A month ago Fahrenkrog,
who graduated from Skidmore College and attended the London School of Economics, moved to a farm in Illinois to train with
noted archery coach Terry Wunderle. Wunderle's son Vic, Fahrenkrog's boyfriend,
won two medals at the Sydney Olympics and is expected to make the Olympic team again. |
