Nichols
sisters dominate women’s recurve division, Loesch sneaks into third while Fahrenkrog slips to fifth
Hillsboro, TX – Jenny
Nichols continued to dominate the women’s recurve field by snatching up a fourth consecutive US trials title over the
weekend. The two time US female archer of the year and Athens Olympian was followed
closely by her younger sister, Amanda Nichols. The race for third was highly
contested and won in the last few shots by Kathie Loesch. Phyllis Shipman was
the alternate.
President of
US Women’s Archery, Joy Fahrenkrog, said that the progress of the US Women as a whole was a positive one. “Two years ago, you had to shoot a 112 average out of 120 to make the team, this year Jenny and Mandy
raised the bar making it impossible to shoot anything less than 112 to make the top six.
What Jenny has done for the women has been tremendous. The last two years
she has opened up a gap, forcing the rest of us to follow.”
Despite a heartbreaking
fifth place finish after holding the third spot for the majority of the trials, on a personal level Fahrenkrog said, “My
goal was to get through the weekend focused on my shooting and not on the outcome. I
accomplished 80% of that goal, had it been 100% I’d be on the team right now.
I know there is a lot of room for improvement and I have no doubt that a little more experience will make up for it. I’m thankful to my friends and family for coming to support me and to Archery
Custom Shop for helping sponsor my trip out here.” Regardless of a disappointing
finish, Fahrenkrog managed to break a personal best for 120 arrows shooting a raw score of 1122 on Saturday.
PSE rocks the women’s
recurve world: three nationals records go down
It was no doubt
an excellent weekend for bow manufacturer PSE. Five of the top six finishers
at the world indoor trails shot the bow. Three national records were also broken
at the trials with the X-factor, all in the women’s recurve division. Jenny
Nichols, Amanda Nichols, and Ginamarie Chiechi set the standards. PSE held up
in the junior women’s division as well, archer Margot Stuchin placed 2nd.
